Make Fluorescent Jello for Halloween
Fluorescent Jello for Halloween is a fun project to celebrate Halloween. Plus, these ghoulish and glowing treats are delicious enough to get the spirit going at your next Halloween party.
Materials needed:
- A packet of Jell-O powder
- Bowl
- Ice cube moulds
- Tonic water
- UV fluorescent light
What to do:
- Mix 3/4 cup of boiling water with 1 packet of Jell-O powder.
- Whisk the Jell-O powder until completely dissolved.
- Stir in 3/4 cup chilled tonic water.
- Pour your Jell-O mixture into a tray or bowl and place it in the refrigerator until it sets (about 1 hour).
- Serve under UV light. Make sure the room is dark for a better effect.
- Place the UV bulb as close to the jellos as possible.
What happened:
Tonic water contains a chemical called quinine that causes it to fluoresce under UV light. Your blacklight emits UV radiation, which is not visible to the naked eye but is absorbed by the quinine. The quinine then re-emits the energy is absorbed in the form of visible light. This is the blue glow you see!
