El Ateneo Grand Splendid., Argentina
The bookshop is located in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was even featured in 2008 by The Guardian, as the second most beautiful bookshop in the world. This year, National Geographic listed it as the world’s most beautiful bookstore. It was originally a performing arts theatre; then a cinema, before it became an indulgent place to read a book; drink coffee and listen to live music.
Polare., Holland
This bookshop has its origins as a 700-year-old Catholic church. It is located in Maastricht, Holland, and has a massive three-storey bookshelf with staircases, elevators and walkways. Interestingly, the church was abandoned for almost 200 years and in that time served many purposes including a bicycle warehouse. It was restored in 2006; and now includes a modern cafe, where customers can relax and read a magazine or daily newspaper.

This book shop can be considered as the wonderland of child’s play, as its design is filled with bright colours and playful shapes. It is located in Beijing, China. The design was meant to create feelings of joy, diversity and strength.

This bookshop features an interesting array of entertainment; such as food, drinks and live music or stand-up. It is situated in the heart of Mexico City, this is the perfect cross between cafe meets bookstore. It offers valet parking; and has reprints of older books in both Spanish and English.

This bookstore is located in Porto, Portugal. It was considered by Lonely Planet (travel publishing company) as the third most beautiful library in the world. It has a neo-gothic facade, and stunning interiors designed by Xavier Esteves.

This bookstore is located in Lisbon, Portugal and its eclectic atmosphere provides for some thought-provoking art, entertainment and discussion add a unique flavour. This includes a cafe for chats over coffee, or the modern and creative feel of sculptures and books filled up to the ceiling.
