Another easy method to keep kids occupied is to give them something to create. You can start a 30 day Lego challenge where each day, the kids have to build a different object. You can choose to make up your own tasks, but here’s a link with a lego calendar if you run out of ideas. Check off each one as you go and see if you can do all 30 days of the challenge!

Gardening:

This environmental activity is perfect for kids looking to get a little dirty. You can start simple and small with some easy weeding and/or trimming the bushes. If you’re up for it, you can plant some vegetables or flowers and watch it grow over the next few months. This will also teach kids responsibility as they will be required to water the plants.

This extremely simple and delicate activity will keep kids occupied. It will also allow them to practise their patience and motor skills. All it takes is a pack of cards and a flat surface for children to build! It is also a quiet activity, so it’s perfect for those looking for some down time or conducting business.

Although this seems very simple and obvious, going outside is actually very beneficial for kids and adults. Taking the kids outside to play is perfect. Not only does it let kids stretch out their legs and expend their boundless energy, they will also be getting sunlight and fresh air. You can go for a quick walk around the neighbourhood, or even go to a park. You can ride your bike to the park and bring along some games like soccer and frisbee.

Put on a play:

Kids can put on a one man show, or have some fun with their sibling(s). You can let them make up their own story or have them reenact their favourite movie scene. Have them write up a script and practise their part. This lets kids work on their creativity, acting and presenting skills. Step things up a bit by making a costume and bringing out props to go with their part.

Get an old jar and some paper and pens and have the kids write down some things they’re thankful for. This jar can be used for the whole year. Have the kids (and even yourself) write one thing they’re thankful for every week and read it all together at the end of the year.

Rock Painting:

What better use of garden rocks than to paint them? Painting rocks is an enjoyable activity that lets kids spark their creativity. They can also paint meaningful words in the front garden rocks to motivate the neighbours/passersby
TIP: use washable paint

TIP: Have the kids try to make their way through the maze in a different way each time.

Treasure Hunt:

This can be done indoors, outdoors, or both! There are many ways you can do this. For instance, you can have a list of household items for the kids to find and check off. Or you can hide objects for the kids to find like an easter egg hunt but without the eggs.
TIP: use the same object. For example; sticky notes, marbles, water bottles. Vary the size each round starting from large objects to smaller objects to raise the difficulty.
